Hornbostel:

Lathrop:

Howard:

Sisk:

I'm not going to buy this. If we do
this, it has to be with the idea of
protecting the corridor along
Colorado 42 which has been
designated open space.

If Council sets the precedent for
giving away that corner, then
Council has set the precedent for
marching all the way down Highway
42. I don't want to see that strip
developed. It's a visual open space
and it's a clear delineation between
Lafayette and Louisville.

The agreement, itself, has a key
clause in it which states that the
owners have a right to request
annexation for some form of
development. It says, in such
cases, it will be the responsibility
of the County and the Cities to make
decisions with regard to the
possible acquisition of an interest
in such lands, in a timely manner.
Given that, I don't think we can
afford to buy the property. I would
look at this piece of property as
desirable to be open space but not
very practical.

Boulder County and the City of
Lafayette are working together with
the City of Louisville to find a
package of open space acquisition.
Because Louisville can't buy it does
not mean that other entities would
not. If a reasonable retail
proposal were brought before the
City of Louisville, one that could
generate enough capital to be worth
while, and Council went to the
people, then, I would not be
adverse. I share Councilman Mayer
and Councilman Lathrop's concerns
about sharing the revenue generated
with other cities.

I would favor looking at a portion
of the property as a retail
potential generating device that
would enable us to get the open

8
