Cultural Council
Meeting Minutes
19 January 2017
Page 2of4
Approval of Meeting Minutes — The minutes from the 17 November 2016
meeting were approved as written (proposed by Debbie, second by Erin).
Chairperson's Report — Review of 2016: The LCC made progress in a number
of areas last year. Programmed events were diverse and well attended. Our
summer concert line-up was distinct in our area and likewise well -attended. 2016
marked significant improvements in marketing and communications. We set our
calendar early, allowing sufficient time for marketing events. Social media sites
were set up, and are starting to take shape. 2016 marked the first year LCC
offered art grants. As a result we were able to directly fund local artists and bring
programs to our town that we would not have thought of on our own. We also
managed to respond to a complaint from performers about our piano and replace
it with a new one thanks to the generous donation of a local citizen.
For 2017 — goals include continued high quality event programming, deepening
marketing & communication, capitalizing on social media outlets, offering
advanced ticket sales, offering another year of high-quality grants, expanding
word of mouth outreach in the community, making headway with public art, and
looking for additional funding sources. Also adding a volunteer base to support
larger events.
Treasurer's Report & 2017 Budget — Lawrence (outgoing Treasurer) presented
materials (included in packet). LCC gained more income than budgeted
(improved contributions), and gained an asset (new, donated piano in LCA).
Most of the income is from the city (for 2017 we will get $15,000), a small amount
from SCFD, ticket sales for indoor performances, and contributions from
attendees at events. All 1099s have been issued, and 990 has been filed for
2016. New Quickbooks software was purchased in the Fall.
Lawrence estimated Treasurer level of effort is about 8 hours per month.
2017 budget — based on assumptions about attendance (i.e. ticket sales) — see
Budget Overview in packet. Motion (proposed by Tammy, second by Angie) to
approve 2017 budget as amended (to include $300 Louisville Art Association
Youth Art event contribution from LCC, decreasing Summer Concert allocation
by that amount) passed unanimously.
Staff Updates —
• Open Government packet provided.
• Motion to approve "2017 LCC Meeting Schedule/Agenda" and "2017 LCC
Programming Dates" (in packet) proposed by Gina, second by Blake,
approved unanimously.
• Arts Coordinator position — 166 applicants. Blake participated in interview
process. Hoping for a final candidate shortly.
For Approval --
