DISCUSSION/MOTION - TED JOHNSON - EXCEPTION TO DESIGN GUIDELINE -
6w OPEN FENCE AGAINST CITY OPEN SPACE

John Franklin, Director of Community Development, commented that
this has been before Council in the past. Mr. Johnson did request
exception to the design guidelines, which govern permits for fences
against City open space. Originally, Mr. Johnson requested a 6 ft.
privacy fence to screen his yard against a strip open space. He
stated that before Council is a request for an alternative design,
which would be a 6 ft. California style chain link fence, which is
a redwood or cedar framed chain link fence. He commented that
Council does have and is the authority to act on this, because they
did adopt the design guidelines.

Ted Johnson, 1320 Franklin Avenue, Louisville, CO, stated that he
would now like to put in a 6 ft. California style chain link fence,
which is open and he thinks would satisfy concerns about creating
a corridor effect along that little strip of property.

Davidson called for Council comments and questions.

Mayer:

Is 6 ft. sufficient, or would 5 ft.
be sufficient?

Johnson:

I think 6 ft. is what I need to keep
the dogs in.

Lathrop:

The fence that you've constructed on
the south part of your residence, is
that 6 ft.?

Johnson:

Yes.

Hornbostel:

Is the placement the same as you
asked for before, right up against
the side walk?

Johnson:

Along the west edge of my property
there is a sidewalk going down into
the little strip of open space. I
would like to keep the 6 ft. fence
up against that part of the
sidewalk, but on the actual strip of
open space there is a good 10 - 15
ft. of grass or weeds that would
separate where the fence is and the
path heading west.

Hornbostel:

John, in terms of what we were
requesting, how far should he be
from the sidewalk?

18
