The sustain ability consultant will utilize their <br />expertise and experience to develop a strategy to provide significant <br />environmental sustainability benefits related to climate and energy, <br />water, transportation, waste and local food and agriculture to the <br />community. <br />The City is proposing to hire a sustainabiliW consultant to implement the newly adopted Sustainability Action Plan and <br />manage and coordinate all projects and programs related to climate and energy, water, transportation, waste and local <br />food and agricultural sustainability. The Sustainability Action Plan outlines a number of goals that the City should strive <br />to achieve to support a sustainable future and prioritize environmental health, economic vitality, and community well- <br />being The City of Louisville currently does not have a staff member that is able to focus solely on sustainability and as a <br />result the community will benefit from the project. <br />The City will issue a Request for Proposals for consultant services and determine which person/firm best meets the <br />selection criteria based on a review of proposals and interviews with the selection committee. The selected person/firm <br />will be asked to sign a contract agreement for consultant services for the City from April 1 through December 31, 2017 <br />Potential tasks for the consultant include implementing the Sustainability Action Plan and a variety of other assignments <br />(i e assisting Sustainability Advisory Board and City staff, coordinating community outreach and education, developing <br />partnerships, evaluating effectiveness, assisting with long-range planning and policy development, incorporating <br />sustainable practices in City operations, etc ) <br />To measure the quantitative and qualitative success of the project, the City will utilize existing key indicators and <br />develop other new measures. In 2016 City Council adopted key indicators for several program areas to measure <br />effectiveness of City operations As a result City staff has been asked to provide the following sustainability-related <br />data: dollars per resident spent, number of programs, percentage of waste generation and diversion, number of vendors <br />that follow sustainable sourcing guidelines, BTUs for City facilities, greenhouse gas emissions, water use, energy use, <br />percentage of City fleet using alternative fuels, and cost savings from energy upgrades.
