In neighboring communities, <br />discussion of this issue has focused on plastic bag fees and/or bans; as well as <br />requiring recycling or reuse of cardboard. <br />Pros <br />Benefits the Environment. <br />May provide a beneficial Commodity for Resale. <br />Minimizes damage to Recycling Facility <br />Cons: <br />May increase customer costs. <br />May not provide as much environmental impact as anticipated. <br />The Utility Committee discussion indicated it may produce more environmental benefits <br />to focus on communitywide recycling or reuse of cardboard than to focus on plastic <br />bags. <br />Other Solid Waste Activities <br />As part of the City's Citizen Survey, and using Boulder County grant funding, staff has <br />conducted surveys on various aspects of solid waste services and waste stream <br />composition.
