<br />City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />July 8, 2008 <br />Page 2 of6 <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Sheri Marsella requested those in attendance introduce <br />themselves. <br /> <br />Connie Howes, Chair of SAB gave a PowerPoint presentation. Ms. Howes <br />presented the Elder Friendly Model that the SAB has adopted which includes 4 <br />parts: 1) Addresses Basic Needs 2) Promotes Social and Civic Engagement 3) <br />Optimizes Physical and Mental Health and Well Being 4) Maximizes <br />Independence for Frail and Disabled. Ms. Howes also presented the SAB's vision <br />statement and the mission statement. <br /> <br />Claire Floyd discussed what SAB is doing for seniors regarding housing. Carol <br />Purfurst discussed the Brooks Cafe meal site program and passed out July 2008 <br />menu and activities for seniors. Ms. Purfurst encouraged City Council to come <br />have lunch with the seniors at the Brooks Cafe. Ms. Floyd also discussed the <br />Intergenerational Program that she has started and hopes to expand with in the <br />future. <br /> <br />Linda Jackson discussed the Social and Engagement projects that she oversees. <br />Ms. Jackson talked about 'Chit Chat Circle' which gives seniors the opportunity to <br />get together and have discussions and also talked about the trips that are offered <br />to seniors to participate in. <br /> <br />Ms. Purfurst discussed the Physical and Mental Health and Well-being part of the <br />model. Ms. Purfurst said that the Recreation and Senior Center went through an <br />age-friendly assessment and met all the requirements. Mr. Purfurst explained <br />that the assessment also allows for improvements to make the Center more age- <br />friendly. Mr. Purfurst said that the SAB will be starting a social dance group. <br /> <br />Councilor Dave Clabots, Council liaison to the SAB, stated that the Board has <br />done a good job and that he enjoyed working with them. Councilor Clabots said <br />regarding housing the things that the SAB is looking at is housing with main floor <br />master bedrooms, minimizing the number steps, wider doors and affordability. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Marsella said that the Louisville Housing Authority is concerned <br />about affordable housing in Louisville and more housing for 'empty nesters'. <br /> <br />Claudia Low, staff liaison to SAB said that when Boulder County came out with <br />the County's Strategic Plan that the SAB stepped up to the plate and have been <br />making great strides incorporating the plan. <br /> <br />Council members thanked the SAB for all the work they do. <br /> <br />3. UpdatelDiscussion - Local Licensing Board (LLA) <br />Mayor Pro Tem Sheri Marsella requested those in attendance introduce <br />themselves. <br />
