City Council
Meeting Minutes
June 6, 2017
• If possible, the City, along with partner organizations, should explore altemate
funding sources and the use of community involvement to reduce the costs of
relocating and rehabilitating the Cabins
Director Zuccaro reviewed the costs associated with the possible move and
rehabilitation of the cabins. He noted the two sites under consideration are in the HPF
area He stated staff is requesting City Council direction on whether they would like the
City to acquire the Miners Cabins, and if yes, staff would like direction on where to
locate the cabins and authorization to expend HPF for the cost of relocation.
Councilmember Maloney asked if the HPF can be used for all of the costs associated
with the move/rehabilitation Director Zuccaro stated yes the HPF could be used if the
cabins are landmarked Councilmember Maloney noted his concern regarding how
much it might cost to rehabilitate the cabins to a point at which they may be open to the
public.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Jean Morgan, 1131 Spruce Street, stated her support for saving the cabins and placing
them at John Breaux Park She noted one could be open to the public in the Park and
one could be placed at Highway 42 and Pine Street She asked for quick action so that
the cabins are assured to be saved. She asked if perhaps volunteers could be used to
do the rehabilitation work She read letters of support from Dave Ferguson, Lois
Chiolino-Tesone, and Jim Trott.
Carol Affleck, 1341 95th Street, Lafayette, 80026, stated her support for the preservation
of the cabins and her concern they will be demolished before the City can save them
She stated historic buildings can be great teaching tools for kids.
Barbara Zeidlik, 105 West 9th Ave, Broomfield, Daughters of the American Revolution
(DAR), stated the DAR supports saving the cabins and noted the DAR has grant money
available for projects such as this.
Councilmember Keany supports the acquisition and would like one of them in a location
people can access them for tours He noted perhaps one could be somewhere
downtown and one at Pine and Highway 42. Mayor Muckle stated he could support
such a plan.
Mayor Pro Tem Lipton asked what the costs would be if the HPC recommendations are
implemented Director Zuccaro noted some additional information is still needed for a
good cost estimate, including what site work would be needed at John Breaux Park.
Without a full bid it is hard to identify all the costs
