1112 Cityot.
Om Louisville
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
Open Space Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, July 12th, 2017
Louisville Public Library: First Floor Meeting Room
951 Spruce Street
7:00 pm
I. Call to Order- Helen called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm.
II. Roll Call -
Board Members Present: Helen Moshak, Laura Scott Denton, Mike Schantz, Jim
Gibb, Fiona Garvin, Missy Davis
Board Members Absent: Linda Smith, Graeme Patterson
City Council Members Present: Jeff Lipton, Mayor Bob Muckle
Staff Members Present: Ember Brignull, Joe Stevens
III. Approval of Agenda -
Laura moved to approve the agenda as written. Fiona seconded. The motion was
passed unanimously.
IV. Approval of Previous Meeting's Minutes -
Fiona identified a mistake in the previous meeting's minutes. The discussion of
Bullhead Gulch underpass made it clear that the board preferred option two (without the
S-curve on the west side), but it was written that the board had voted on option one. This
was an error: it should have read that the board voted for option two. Jim moved to
approve the minutes with the aforementioned change. Laura seconded. The motion was
passed unanimously.
V. Staff Updates -
A. A contingent from CSU and other grassland managers are coming to inspect
the effects of the anti-cheatgrass herbicide plots at Davidson Mesa tomorrow. There will
be two busloads of people at this visit.
B. The weed -eating goats were recently at Davidson Mesa. There were 140 goats
on about 3 acres of land for 8 days. This was a fill-in contract, since the first contractor
pulled out, but Ember was happy with the way it worked out because these goats
particularly liked to graze on mullein, a common weed at Davidson Mesa. Staff is
discussing having them back in the fall. Citizens and neighbors gave staff positive
feedback about the fun of seeing the goats and the herbicide -free weed control.
C. Staff met with Boulder County to discuss the regional trail phone app they are
working on in conjunction with the state of Colorado. There will be a proposal to hire a
consultant to build the app, once the partners have decided what they want. The county is
looking for appropriate grants first, but if that doesn't work, they may come to the
partners for funding.
