Joint Meeting <br />Boulder Valley School District <br />Louisville City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />May 7, 2008 <br />Page 3 of 7 <br />CITY COUNCIL /BOARD OF= EDUCATION COMMENTS <br />Mayor Sisk noted many residents have expressed their desire to maintain the <br />historic facade. He voiced hiss hope that the Board of Education and the City <br />could work together to preserve history; attain security, space, and a quality <br />education. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Marsella stated the auditorium's ceiling tiles are artifacts and <br />asked if they could be preserved. Principal Fels stated they will try to preserve <br />the tiles. <br />Councilor Muckle voiced his preference for the Louisville Museum staff to be <br />involved in the process and asked that Museum Coordinator Bridget Bacon be <br />contacted. Principal Fels confirmed they will contact Ms Bacon. <br />Board Member Paxton asked if all the old part of the school will be demolished. <br />Principal Fels stated only the auditorium will be demolished. <br />Councilor Dalton inquired as to the responsibilities of the Design Advisory Team. <br />Project Manager Don Orr stated the Master Plan identified the following goals: 1) <br />the education of children, 2) rnaintaining the budget and 3) public safety. <br />Principal Fels summarized the goals for the Design Advisory Committee were for <br />the enhancement of all learning, health, safety and security and adaptability for <br />the future. <br />Board Member Paxton stated) the main goal was doing what was best for the <br />children and the Design Advisory Team was very aware of the economic issue <br />and the education of children. <br />Councilor Muckle stressed the Design Advisory Team did not look at the <br />preservation of the history of the school. He stated it is very painful for many of <br />the Louisville residents to see: the destruction of the historic portion of the school. <br />Project Manager Orr explained the Design Advisory Committee spent a great <br />deal of time looking at the preserving the historic facade and to incorporate <br />historic elements into the design. Due to the cost of preservation, it was <br />determined the facade could not be saved. He noted the drawings are finalized, <br />the contracts have been signed and construction is scheduled to begin in June. <br />Mayor Sisk noted the City of ILouisville contributed a large amount of money to <br />local schools including the auiditorium seats at the Louisville Middle School, the <br />field at Monarch High and the: gymnasium at Louisville Elementary School. He <br />stated his hope that the City and schools and continue to work together. <br />
