Joint Meeting <br />Boulder Valley School District <br />Louisville City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />May 7, 2008 <br />Page 5 of 7 <br />Only 11 % of the respondents listed historic preservation as their overall priority. <br />He asked what should be diverted from the educational budget to accommodate <br />the historic facade. <br />Alise Jackson, 336 Driftwood Circle, Lafayette, CO stated she is a volunteer at <br />Louisville Middle School. Shc: expressed her love for the school, but not for the <br />building. She suggested moving forward and incorporating the artifacts into the <br />new building. She noted the purpose of this facility is to educate children. <br />Ginny Vidulich, 2775 15th Boulevard, Boulder, CO spoke on behalf of Billy <br />O'Donnell, who was a Designs Advisory Team member. He stressed that <br />Louisville Middle School is ani important artifact however one of the main goals <br />was to remove the asbestos <~nd the meet the security requirements. <br />Jay McAvoy, 379 Lincoln Court, Louisville, CO voiced his support of the Design <br />Advisory Team and his disappointment with the 11th-hour attempt to save the <br />facade. He urged Board of Education to go forward and stressed the children will <br />get the best deal out of the remodel. <br />Michele Pelanne, 749 Wildrose Way, Louisville, CO stated she is a volunteer with <br />the Louisville Middle School, and looks forward to the new school. She stressed <br />her desire for the discussion on the preservation of the facade to be over. She <br />was a member of the Design Advisory Team and outlined the process which was <br />followed. She expressed her desire to celebrate the new building. <br />Christina Aronsen, 7889 Snowbird Lane, Lafayette, CO, outlined the following <br />three points: 1) She voted for the bond to upgrade the remodel of the building; 2) <br />She is a parent of a shy child who was transformed once having attended LMS, <br />and 3) She is a structural engineer and noted this building is structurally <br />unsound, and has a fair amount of asbestos. She supported the approved plans. <br />Marvin Sharp, 5995 Marshall, Louisville, CO explained his interest in history and <br />stressed the value of historic preservation. He felt the Louisville Middle School is <br />the most significant building iin Louisville and has value in the community. He <br />explained estimates on construction can vary by four to one. He suggested <br />taking a 30-60 day period to gather other estimates to preserve the facade. <br />John Leary, 1116 LaFarge Avenue, Louisville, CO regretted the Board of <br />Education's standoff attitude. He felt there had to be something that could be <br />done to preserve the history of the School. He felt it was not fair for the Board of <br />Education to hold the City hostage. He suggested a Louisville Citizen Committee <br />oversee the cataloging of schiool artifacts. <br />
