Development of our commercial re- <br />sources should be compatible with efforts <br />to improve the economic viability of down- <br />town. It was her belief that the emphasis <br />should be on low density, single family <br />Downtown Commercial dwelling and downtown commercial development. <br />Development Commercial development should be focused <br />on the downtown and should include a priority <br />of renovating old buildings wherever possible. <br />Shoe further stated it is always easy to make <br />popular statments. The difficult part is <br />making those statements become a reality. <br />It. is disturbing to see what is happening <br />anal not happening downtown. Some store- <br />owners have :had to take on part-time or <br />full time jobs to meet their rental pay- <br />me.nts. Commercial development should be <br />taking place downtown. We need to support <br />ou.r local businesses before expanding to <br />ne.w ones along the Interstate. To avoid <br />simply becoming a bedroom community for <br />more organized growth planning, for hopes <br />of` a public transportation system in Louis- <br />ville to serve all areas of the City, com- <br />mercial downtown development is a necessity. <br />Mr•s. Singer stated - all of you sitting on <br />Council this evening were elected by a <br />majority of :Louisville residents, who believe <br />that residential growth did not pay for itself <br />anal who wanted to see fewer homes built in <br />our City. Homart came to this City with <br />a plan. It's not your responsibility to <br />redesign that plan. The umpire doesn't <br />play the game - he sets the rules. <br />John Rowan Mr. Rowan stated that he lived in Boulder <br />3605 Table .Mesa bust worked at 740 S. Pierce St. in Louisville. <br />Boulder, Colorado Hey represented a corporation that invested <br />millions of dollars in the City of Louisville <br />ir.~ the last 2 years. He had just received <br />plans for another project that will be a <br />multi-million dollar project and should be <br />completed in August. Having been in Louis- <br />ville for the past year, he had read the <br />paper, talked with people in the community, <br />ar.~d had heard no objection from anyone. <br />Present councilmembers had been referred to <br />as an anti-growth council, so that was the <br />a~~sumption he was going under. Mr. Rowan <br />stated that he knew none of the councilmembers <br />personally, so was assuming that everything <br />they have said they do believe and feel is <br />
