Mayor Meier dis- <br />senting. Motion carried 4-1. <br />ORDINANCE N0. 852 SALES/USE Councilmembers had a copy of the ordinance; <br />TAX Attorney Rautenstraus read it by title-only- - <br />on first reading and the request was for <br />publication and that a public hearing be <br />set„ <br />MO'T'ION TO PUBLISH Mayor Meier moved, Councilman Luce seconded <br />that: Ordinance No. 852 Sales/Use Tax be <br />published and a public hearing set for <br />December 18 , 19 8 4 . <br />MOTION TO TABLE ORDINANCE Councilman Leary moved, Councilwoman seconded <br />N0. 852 that: Ordinance No. 852 - Sales/Use Tax be <br />tab]!ed. <br />Councilman Leary Staged that this is one of the more difficult <br />decisions he has had to deal with since he <br />had been on Council, as the downtown re- <br />development has been one of the highest <br />priorities he has had for the past 2-3 years. <br />He had gone to several meetings during the <br />past: 2 years discussing the issue. Always <br />at all these meetings, the feeling that was <br />portrayed by the business community was that <br />this was a joint project. On the City's <br />side: we commited over $200,000 last year; <br />and we are commiting, with this ordinance, <br />oven- $700,000 more. Possibly one of our <br />staff memebers has worked almost full time <br />
