10/2/84 Page -6-
defined Walkway There is no defined walk way from the School
and in the area of the pick-up zone. The recom-
mendation is that the School define a walkway
so that children are not coming from all direc-
tions.
Director of Public Safety Mr. Leesman stated that he and Mr. Romsey
Leesman had reviewed these concerns together and came
up with the recommendations as presented. He
felt that there needs to be a strong emphasis that
either the School or the PTO is educating the
parents not to use Garfield when entering the
School - use McKinley so this route is used
the way it was designed. Mr, Leesman also
stated that the School District should look
at more parking in the School complex area.
He was nat`~~tain if some of these problems
would be alleviated by the opening of the
new school or what that impact would be.
Councilman Leary Commented that he felt that it was the respon-
sibilty of the City relative to the traffic
problems of getting the correct information
together and. assist in working out the dis-
tribution of it.
Director. Leesman stated he didn't kn~w~who the
parents are that are creating the problems.
He is more than willing to assist in preparing
the information but must be distributed in
some manner.
Councilman Leary agreed that the material should
be distributed by the School District.
Meeting Scheduled with Prin- Mr. Romsey stated that a meeting .:.is scheduled
cipal of Louisville Elementary for tomorrow with Mrs. Labuda, Principal of
School the Louisville Elementary School, and some
of the residents to discusss what the Council
recommends and what the City will do and what
the School will do to alleviate the concerns.
He also stated that this must be a joint effort
between the City, School, residents and parents
to resolve all concerns. Mr. Romsey stated
that one of the things that Mrs. Labuda brought
up was that the School District is talking
about possibly dedicating the land which the
driveway is presently on to the City. Then
this could be made a one-way street. He ex-
plained that if that were the case the resi-
dents in the area maybe much opposed to Mc
Kinley and Garfield Sts. being one-way. If
they were not, to alleviate the problem, we
would need a wide enough right-of-way for on
