8/7/84 <br />wished to proceed in <br />the stop signs, that <br />on liability precede <br />Page -15- <br />the installation of <br />a thorough discussion <br />that approval. <br />Mayor Meier Commented that he agreed with the statement <br />that there would be liability if the signage <br />was not warranted as detailed in the Manual <br />on Uniform Traffic Control Devices; but <br />specifically at the intersection of Hoover <br />and West Streets,; not for speed control, <br />but f:or the safety of the children, he would <br />be iri favor of signing Hoover and West St. <br />Councilman Fauson Concurred with Mayor Meier's remarks and <br />felt this stop sign should be in place as <br />soon as possible, as school will be start- <br />ing in 3 weeks. He also felt that something <br />should be done at Hoover and Bella Vista <br />DrivE, so that there would be a continuance <br />of traffic flow. Suggested that perhaps a <br />reduction in speed sign could be placed at <br />that location. <br />~'ouncilwoman Morris Agreed that a stop sign should be placed at <br />Hoover and West Streets. Admitted she had <br />a tendency to speed thru there because it <br />is a road that is conclusive to go faster <br />than 25 mph. In Windmill Pointe, she knew <br />that the Madison and Polk area also is <br />being used for the same purpose that Hoover <br />is. Mrs. Morris asked if there were other <br />streets in the area where signage was proposed. <br />Director Kasch stated that he had several re- <br />quests for stop signs by residents but none <br />of them met warrants and would not recommend <br />that they be signed. <br />Mrs. Morris stated that she had a concern <br />with the children - their route pattern <br />will change because they will be going to <br />the new Elementary School when it opens; <br />but until that time they will be walking along <br />the same routes to Louisville Elementary. <br />She requested that Mr. Kasch direct his <br />staff, when school starts, to take a look <br />at that to see what kind of numbers we are <br />looking at as safety wise for the children. <br />Mr. Kasch agreed to do this. <br />~:ouncilwoman Johnson Asked what can be done about the speeding. <br />She had been battling this for 22 years; <br />had been promised speed bumps from our <br />
