Louisville City Council Meeting <br />May 18, 2004 <br />Page 3 of 11 <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION - ARBOR DAY <br /> <br />Land Management Director Cindy Lair explained one of the requirements of Tree City <br />USA is to have an Arbor Day celebration every year. She noted Louisville is the second <br />longest running City celebrating Arbor Day in Colorado. This year's event will be <br />Saturday, May 22nd at the Memory Square Park and the Arts and Humanities Center. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk read the proclamation proclaiming May 22nd as Arbor Day and presented the <br />proclamation to Cindy Lair. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION - OLDER AMERICANS MONTH <br /> <br />Members of the Louisville Senior Advisory Board: Bill McDermott, Walter Oehlkers, <br />Sheila Newton, Jim Purfurst, Rich Olson, and Ron Taylor, were in attendance to receive <br />the proclamation. Chairperson McDermott thanked Council for recognizing the senior <br />members of the community. He presented Council with the Louisville Senior Advisory <br />Board 2003 Summary. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk read the proclamation proclaiming May as Older Americans Month and <br />presented the proclamation to Bill McDermott. <br /> <br />RECOGNITION OF KEVIN THEDE & RONDA LEGGETT - BOULDER <br /> COUNTY BUSINESS HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk stated Kevin Thede and Ronda Leggett, proprietors of the Marketplace <br />Bakery, were inducted into the Boulder County Business Hall of Fame in April of 2004. <br />He presented plaques to both and flowers to Ms. Leggett for their contributions to <br />Louisville. <br /> <br />Ms. Leggett noted she is a third generation Louisville resident and her grandmother <br />served meals on Front Street in the early 1900's. Leggett and Thede thanked the Mayor <br />and Council for honoring and recognizing them. <br /> <br />UPDATE - MOSQUITO AND WEST NILE CONTROL <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. <br /> <br />Land Management Director Cindy Lair stated in 2003, Boulder County reported 62 <br />deaths from the West Nile virus. She stressed the Land Management Department and the <br />City Manager's staff continues to work with the Health Department to actively control <br />mosquitoes and educate citizens about the need for personal protection against biting <br />mosquitoes. Education efforts for 2004 focus on living testimonies from victims of the <br />2003 season to better relay the critical nature of protecting all citizens. She stated a <br />Boulder County Health Department representative would make a presentation. <br /> <br /> <br />
