Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes—DRAFT
July 6, 2017
9) Director's Report
Beth reported the following:
■ Summer Reading
Participation across all programs is up about 12%. Participation in the Teen program is up
significantly because 6th -graders have the option to participate in the Children's or Teen
program this year.
■ On The Same Page (OTSP)
Beth distributed the rack cards and Jeannie provided a brief synopsis of this year's non-
fiction selection, Sing for Your Life. Beth talked about the two special appearances by
Mezzo -Soprano Sarah Coit, who won the Denver regional Metropolitan Opera Council
audition. Book discussions and programs are scheduled for September and October.
■ Courier Service
Beth talked about the ongoing issues all members of the FLC are experiencing with materials
deliveries. The FLC voted to change its courier service and issued an RFP. A new courier will
begin a new, closed-loop route just for the FLC beginning in October, 2017. This service will
be less expensive than the current courier.
■ Future Plans
Beth noted the space redesign plans that are currently underway. The purpose of this effort
is to provide more study space for individuals and more seating for those wanting to use
mobile devices. An area for tweens in the Children's Services is also being planned. Some
new furniture will be purchased and a majority of books on the second floor will need to be
shifted. A majority of this work will not take place until 2018.
■ FLC
The group is planning to purchase the video training service, Lynda.com beginning in 2018.
The Library is currently under contract for Gale Courses, which was just renewed for a 12 -
month period. It is believed that Lynda.com will appeal to a broader range of patrons,
particularly those in the 18-41 age group. This age group represents only 25% of current Gale
Courses users. Some budgeting issues are being worked out between the Library and the
Human Resources department, which currently funds the annual renewal for Gale Courses.
10) Agenda Items for Next Meeting: September 14, 2017
In addition to regular agenda items, the following will be included:
A. Update on all outreach projects
11) Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:56pm.
