Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
July 17, 2017
Page 5of11
Koertje asks if Staff is okay with the rear alterations on both structures.
Trice says yes. The changes to the siding are restricted to the post 1948 addition. The 3'
addition is minimal and on the rear of the property.
Koertje says can you explain why the doors are being replaced?
Trice says the doors are not original and when they were replaced in the openings, they were
not done well. It is mentioned in the HSA that they are drafty and not functioning well.
Dickinson asks if there is an explanation of the reason for moving the door at 720 Pine. Why
are they looking to make that switch?
Trice says I think it is a programming issue based on what the floorplan will look like inside.
Applicant Presentation:
Nicole Ringelmann, 8317 Pawnee Lane, Niwot, CO
My husband is also present tonight. I want to specifically thank Lauren Trice for her help. She
has been invaluable to the process.
Commission Questions of Applicant:
Fahey asks if you are okay with Staff's recomme n to not put shingles on the front.
Ringelmann says yes, it was just a cosmetic c ' so it is no •roblem.
Dickinson asks about the functionality of the doo emen
Ringlelmann says currently the door is located in a • i at is not insulated, but part of
the house. It is an enclosed porch area. To improve th- ' ow of the house on the interior, it
makes more sense to move the door to the other side. It gives us an opportunity to make a
closet where the ceiling is lower.
Koertje asks are you okay with Staff's recommendation for the names.
Trice says the names are Ringelmann's recommendations.
Ringlemann says my daughter calls them the twin cottages, Joey and Aggie.
Public Comment in Favor: None.
Public Comment Against: None.
Closed Public Hearing and Discussion by Commission:
Dickinson says I am happy about this. These are great little cottages and the applicant is doing
very little to change the size. The minor addition on the back at 722 Pine is respectful. Almost
everything is restorative. I like that they are reusing the windows in different spots at 722 Pine.
They are being repurposed. I can tell that the applicant has spent time with Staff to bring forth a
great project that is in line with what we ask people to do. I am impressed with the presentation
and ideas.
Ulm says on top of everything else, trying to maintain the fabric in the neighborhood as a single
family residence and doing all the work on this busy thoroughfare is a nice attempt. I appreciate
it.
Koertje says this is a wonderful application. The modifications are minimal in a visible part of
Old Town that many people every day. These houses add such character to Pine Street.
Cyndi Thomas says thank you because it is clear that you have put a lot of time and effort into
this. It is a very sensitive addition given the exposure these houses have on Pine Street.
Ringelmann says the addition is because the rear end of the 722 Pine house is not tied into the
original house correctly and is about to fall off. We gained 3' because we have to spend effort to
keep the addition attached to the house.
Fahey says I agree with my fellow commissioners. I think this is a wonderful example of how
Louisville's history can be preserved.
