Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
September 18, 2017
Trice responded that it was for the Red Barn location in Community Park. She stated that staff
wanted to include a combination of mining, agricultural, and commercial history to spread out
the topics of the signs.
Cyndi Thomas asked if staff would like grammatical corrections from the Commission in an
email or if they wanted to go through them during the meeting.
Trice responded that the commissioners could email staff with their corrections.
Fahey asked if the Commission could delay the 740 Front Street sign in light of the mining
cabins moving there or make the sign into a general sign about Front Street and not 740 Front
specifically.
Chuck Thomas and Koertje agreed.
Trice stated that the 740 Front Street sign was a budget item for this year and that the status of
the miners' cabins was undetermined at this point. She asked the Commission if staff could
move forward with the sign this year if it included more general language about Front Street.
Fahey said that would work.
Haley asked if Steinbaugh Pavilion was relevant to the saloon story of Front Street.
Trice replied that she thought it could be, as it was a gritty blacksmith shop and the City has
pictures of the shop next to the saloons.
Ulm stated that if the cabins were moved to Front Street, he would recommend an additional
sign anyway.
Fahey stated that perhaps staff and the Commission should wait to include Steinbaugh in a sign
until the miners' cabins are moved.
Koertje added that the content of the sign is already about the general street, but it needed a
sentence or two about the Steinbaugh Pavilion.
Fahey asked if there was going to be anything at the corner of Highway 42 and South Boulder
Road where 7th Generation Farm is.
Trice said that interpretive signs in that location would be up to the county. The county is
considering having a tour in that area for the Rex Mine.
Chuck Thomas suggested that the Commission put together a list of structures and other
historical things that no longer exist that they want to have signs for. He suggested that they
could be incorporated into an online, self-directed tour to the history of Louisville.
Trice added that the Commission could send further recommendations to her via email, but that
they should also copy Lisa Ritchie in their emails.
Realtor Training: A discussion on the Realtor Training program set out in the
Preservation Master Plan and the HPC 2017 goal to work with realtors.
