Louisville City Council Meeting
December 21, 2004

REGULAR BUSINESS

ORDINANCE NO. 1459, SERIES 2004 - AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
CERTAIN SECTIONS OF CHAPTER 3.12 OF THE LOUISVILLE MUNICIPAL
CODE, CONCERNING TAX RELIEF FOR THE ELDERLY - 2nd reading - public
hearing (advertised Daily Camera 12/11/04)

Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation.

Finance Director Patty Leslie explained that Ordinance No. 430, Series 1973 provided
financial relief and security for elderly citizens of the City of Louisville by providing a
cash rebate of the City of Louisville's Mill Levy for qualified residents over the age of
65. The applicant must have been a resident of the City for some part of the calendar
year proceeding the calendar year in which the application is made. No income
restrictions applied to the ordinance. She reviewed how other municipalities handle
senior rebates. Staff prepared an analysis and forwarded two recommendations to the
current ordinance.

1) That the homeowner value be capped at $250,000, which would allow for the
maximum rebate of $103.16 per resident based on 2004 tax rates.
2) The percent of the rebate given to applicants exclude the Library levy of 1.526.

Mayor Sisk opened the public hearing and asked if anyone in the audience wished to
speak for or against Ordinance No. 1459, Series 2004. There were no comments.

COUNCIL COMMENT

Council member Keany noted a typographical error in the ordinance, Section 1, C.
Correction should be made to reflect 0 - $6,000.00

Mayor Sisk requested public comment and hearing none, closed the public hearing.

MOTION: Council member Keany moved for Council approval of Ordinance No. 1459,
Series 2004, with a correction to Section 1, C. to read 0 to $6,000.00.
