City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />December 19, 2017 <br />Page 5 of 17 <br />Saunders Construction the amount of $7,534,694.00 to do the interior work, finishes, <br />accessories and special systems including landscaping. <br />Director Stevens stated staff would like to remove the original filter system and add an <br />alternate regenerative media filter system. It would save nearly 220,000 gallons of water <br />per year and as it would require not having to backwash as often, saving an annual <br />operating cost of above $3000 on water If not done now, it will likely have to be <br />included as a future capital project. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Lipton stated he was pleased with the pace of construction. He asked <br />the City Manager if there is money to now include some of the things we cut earlier. He <br />asked if we should be more conservative with the add alternates considenng the larger <br />picture <br />Interim City Manager Balser stated we are continuing to look at savings as the project <br />moves forward. Council previously approved an additional $250,000 for the MAC gym in <br />amendment# 2 and that has been taken out of the costs for now When the final <br />amendment for the MAC gym comes back, staff will provide a list of priorities for <br />add/alternates <br />Mayor Pro Tem Lipton asked what the schedule is for a better understanding of <br />contingencies. Director Stevens stated with amendment #4 there will be a firm number <br />for the MAC gym. Right now there is an owner's contingency of $615,000 and <br />construction contingency of $500,000. Director Stevens stated he is somewhat cautious <br />as we still aren't going vertical and renovation of an old building always has some <br />surprises. Interim City Manager Balser added staff will provide quarterly reports to <br />Council on where we are on the contingency spending. <br />Councilmember Maloney asked for a project update. Brian Schack, project manager <br />with Saunders Construction, stated they are currently putting in caissons and that will <br />continue into January; then focus on concrete and foundation work. The Memory <br />Square bath house has been removed He anticipates in July they will turn over the <br />west section of the recreation center building and the rest of the building in December. <br />Memory Square should be turned over in May <br />Mayor Muckle called for public comment and hearing none, sought a motion. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Lipton moved to approve contract amendment # 3 Councilmember <br />Keany seconded <br />Vote: Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote <br />ORDINANCE NO. 1752, SERIES 2017 — AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE <br />REZONING OF CERTAIN CITY -OWNED PROPERTY FROM VARIOUS <br />RESIDENTIAL, AGRICULTURE, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL ZONE <br />
