VIII. Staff Updates - A. Parks will be resurfacing the trail in the DOLA on Thursday & Friday between 8-3. It will be a 10 foot trail. Jim asked if there would be a border along the trail. Ember said there would not be. Helen suggested signs to ask people to stay on the trail except when cleaning up after their dogs. Parks is also considering adding more trash cans and exploring the possibility of a composting service for dog waste. B. There will be a January ranger -led dog waste pick up event. C. Open Space staff is purchasing dog -related treats for the ranger to reward good dog -owner behavior in 2018 (e.g. bag holders & water bowl, etc.). D. Public Works will be doing water and storm water related work on Coyote Run (removing trees) and North Open Space (installing a water line on the southern property line). E. Staff is starting an encroachment education campaign in January. Information is tentatively scheduled to go into the water bill and on the City webpage, alerting people about what constitutes encroachment on City open space. In April staff will start enforcing. Laura suggested information also go into the quarterly newsletter. Jeff asked whether fencing repair would be part of the enforcement. Ember said that was not the focus at this time and that the focus is on the more common issues such as yard clippings, vegetable garden plantings, storage of personal items on City property etc.. F. The wayfinding CIP app that staff is working on may be done by the end of the year. G. The Police Department and Open Space staff met with County dispatch to share their ideas of improving dispatch information available to police and emergency personnel related specifically to Louisville Open Space. Dispatch was interested in pursuing a pilot project to test some of the ideas later in 2018. H. Prairie dog population reduction work is happening at Davidson Mesa and Daughenbaugh. The City is live -trapping prairie dogs so they can be donated to black - footed ferret organizations (the black footed ferret organization is no longer accepting prairie dogs that have been captured via flushing). I. After the prescribed fire at Aquarius staff has returned to treat actively growing cheat grass pockets. J. Ember passed around a spreadsheet for OSAB members to fill in their annual volunteer hour totals. 6
