Memo
Date: January 11, 2018
To: Louisville Library Board of Trustees
From: Beth Barrett, Director of Library and Museum Services
Re: Revision of the Library Trustee Handbook
At our November meeting we discussed revising the handbook given to new Library Trustees. This is a
project that has always managed to wind up on the back burner, and I apologize for not suggesting
putting this up for discussion for a thorough revision before now. Some of the documents included need
updating or replacing and some information that has not been included should be.
For discussion on Jan. 11, 2018, I'd like to propose the following outline. Karen suggests that we
consider changing the format into an electronic flipbook so that updates can be done easily and the
resources it contains are easily accessed by everyone.
(a) Intro: service area, general description
(b) Roles of the Library Foundation and the Library Board of Trustees
(c) Municipal Code related to library and LBOT (Chapter 2.64)
(d) History of the library
(e) Job description
(f) Public Library Trustee Ethics Statement
(g) Strategic Plan
(h) Bylaws
(i) Colorado Library Law
(j) Open Government and Ethics
(k) Intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Superior
(I) Organization chart
At the November meeting there was discussion about whether or not to include the Library's budget in
the handbook. Based on that conversation and a review of the Municipal Code's delineation of duties for
the Board, I have not included the budget in the list above. I look forward to your thoughts and
suggestions about that and other information the Board would like to see in the handbook.
