Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />September 15, 2008 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />members enough so that they can ask the right questions related to preservation and <br />so they recognize the value of historic buildings. <br />Whiteman asked what issues are currently in front of the Council that need to be <br />addressed. <br />Muckle stated that preservation is under funded and under appreciated. Council <br />should be funding a preservation program, making it a priority, and being more <br />proactive on preservation issues. She added that there is a lack of a sense of <br />importance around the issue. <br />Koertje asked if a presentation could be made to explain the issues and it could run <br />on Channels 8 and 54. <br />Whiteman asked what content should be highlighted and what ideas end strategies <br />should be considered. He asked what would be the most effective way to get the <br />message to the City Council. <br />Koertje asked if more preservation themed roundtables are scheduled. <br />Muth stated that none were at this time, but if topics were selected more may be <br />possible. <br />Members came up with the following suggested topics: <br />• Ft. Collins Revitalization <br />• Heritage Tourism <br />• Green Building and Preservation <br />Members will continue to th~~k of ideas for the subcommittee. <br />Update -Cemetery Master~Plan -Kathy Kron, Project Manager <br />Muth introduced Kathy Kron, Parks & Recreation Project Manager to discuss the <br />Cemetery Master Plan: <br />McMenamin recused himself from the discussion as he is one of the project consultants <br />Kron introduced herself and reminded members that she and the project consultants <br />came to the HPC in April at the start of the project. Since then the project team has held <br />public meetings and gone to a City Council study session. The final plan calls for <br />expansion in two phases. She explained she was there to take questions about the plan <br />She added that the final plan will go to the City Council for approval in October. <br />Koertje asked if the historic stone building will remain on the site. <br />Kron stated that keeping it is included in the plan and it should be rehabilitated in Phase <br />II. There is also the possibility of adding interpretive signage as well. <br />Koertje asked if the existing fence is historic. <br />
