Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes—DRAFT
January 11, 2018
10) Director's Report
Beth reported the following:
• Statistics related to checkouts, visitors, programs, and acquisitions have remained much the
same as in 2016
• Children's Services and Materials Management (cataloguing) are working on a project to level
readers in the Children's collection. There will be four levels, noted by colored dots on the
front of the book. This will make it easier for parents to find books at an appropriate reading
level for their child, and it will also help expedite return of materials to the shelves. There are
approximately 3,000 books in this collection.
• In February, Beth will go to a Town of Superior Trustees meeting for the first in a quarterly
series of meetings designed to keep Town Trustees and residents informed about Library issues
and services.
o Member Hammerly commended Library staff for compiling and distributing information to
the Town for communication to its residents.
• Funds for a Library refurbishment were approved and the design for this project was completed
in 2017.
o Refurbishment comprises seating, study, and social spaces including a new area in the
children's department specifically for `tweens'; those not yet ready for the Teen space
but who prefer not to be grouped in with lower elementary and younger children.
o Many items in the Adult collection will need to be moved and a company specializing in
Library moves has been selected.
o The Library will be closed for a week in April (8-14) to accommodate the changes. Notice
will be provided through various outlets well in advance
• The first 10 of the Museum's oral history interviews are now available online and will be
highlighted on the City and Library/Museum websites.
11) Agenda Items for Next Meeting: March 8, 2018
In addition to regular agenda items, the following will be included:
A. 2018 Work Plan
B. Status of possible Eagle Scout project
C. Job descriptions for the Board handbook
12) Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:33 PM.
