Staff will return October 17, 2013, seeking a <br />motion to approve a resolution which advances a final draft of the ordinance <br />to City Council for consideration. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The attached draft ordinance represents staff's initial recommended <br />modifications to the Louisville Municipal Code to adopt 2012 Edition of the <br />International Building Code and associated documents. A number of <br />modifications to the 2012 International Building Code's family of documents <br />are included in the ordinance. <br />Two primary modifications include: 1) the requirement to fully sprinkler all new <br />residential structures constructed in Louisville; and, 2) Establishing Appendix <br />D, Fire Apparatus Access Roads, in the 2012 International Fire Code as a <br />guideline, not a standard. <br />The amended language of the ordinance states that the final determination of <br />the required fire access facility dimensions shall be determined mutually <br />between the Fire Marshall and the City of Louisville, where any waiver <br />request to Appendix D shall include an engineered plan for the alternative <br />design of the access facility. <br />Staff is supporting the inclusion of the required residential sprinklers and <br />modifications to the LMC regarding Appendix D of the fire code for the <br />following reasons. <br />1) Residential sprinklers will save lives by: <br />
