City,- OmLouisville <br />Communications Plan <br />Updated 5/22/18 <br />Introduction <br />The City of Louisville values public involvement in the decision -making process. It is important <br />to maintain the flow of communication between the City and citizens so that elected officials and <br />staff can make informed decisions that reflect the opinions of the community. The City aims to <br />engage residents and business owners and encourage them to effectively become a part of the <br />process. The purpose of the Communications Plan is to assess current outreach efforts and <br />identify methods to improve communication with target audiences. <br />Goals <br />• Provide citizens with complete, accurate, and timely information, enabling them to <br />participate in the City's decision -making process. <br />• Encourage two-way informational flow that acknowledges the value of citizen input. <br />• Develop proactive communication in which the City has the opportunity to relay <br />information rather than relying on others to interpret the City's actions. <br />• Establish strong and consistent messages that reinforce and reflect the City's goals as <br />established by the City Council and staff. <br />• Utilize a variety of means to communicate with the maximum number of individuals in <br />the community. <br />• Maximize awareness, utilization, and attendance for City programs and events. <br />• Establish and maintain proactive media relations to keep the community connected. <br />• Explore innovative methods of communication that incorporate new technology. <br />• Ensure that materials include a diverse representation of the community. <br />• Periodically review the Communications Plan to ensure it is up-to-date. <br />Target Audiences <br />• Citizens of Louisville — Establishing a dialogue with residents, employees and business <br />owners is the highest priority for the City. <br />• City Council and Boards, Commissions, and Committee Members — Council, Board, <br />Commission, and Committee Members communicate on behalf of the community and <br />the organization. <br />• City Employees — The City's employees play an important role communicating with the <br />public. <br />• Volunteers — The City relies on many people who volunteer their time to the community. <br />It is important to develop ongoing communication with volunteers to maintain these <br />relationships. <br />• Visitors — Louisville serves as a unique destination for visitors.
