Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
December 10, 2008
Review Policy Regarding Closures
Spencer recommends finding alternative location for dog off-leash area and
closing the area on Davidson Mesa. An alternative would be to manage the
property better. Aaron moves to put on the February agenda a discussion of
disposition of Davidson Mesa off-leash area, including the possibility of closing
the area and relocating it. Bret seconded. Voting in favor: Tom, Spencer, Larry,
Kate, Aaron, Bret. Voting against: Truman. The motion passed.
Discuss OSAB Appreciation Event
Wednesday Jan 7th 7-8:30 Boulder County will be speaking on raptor
identification in library meeting room. We will do dinner at 5:45pm to 6:45pm to
leave time for clean up before presentation. Ember would like to include active
OS volunteers. Guests are welcome to speaker, but not to dinner.
Ideas for Educational Programs
Ember is still collecting ideas. She reviewed ideas contributed so far:
birds of prey, Native American history of coal creek, front range mountain lion
study, coyotes presented by the Colorado OS Alliance, April program on earth
day and arbor day; maybe a week long celebration, weed education with bio
control on site(releasing of bugs), property walks, nature walks, weed
identification hike, history of Open Space in Louisville. Holiday program for kids
making ornaments from recycled materials. Gardening presentation at
community gardens with a master gardener. This type of program might be part
of a master gardener system. Ember envisions a mix of field visits and indoor
events. Aaron asked about a paid education coordinator for the city. Joe can't
say that this position is on the horizon and it would need to be reviewed.
Discussion Items for Next Meeting
1. Integrated weed management plan with letter of recommendation with
HFAB Jan 14th at 6:30pm
Adjourn -Aaron moved to adjourn at 9:27pm, Bret seconded. The motion
passed unanimously.
