SUBJECT:
2018 STREET FAIRE SEASON REVIEW
DATE:
OCTOBER 1, 2018
PAGE 3 OF 3
The Street Faire increased its online promotion of the event to reach a wider audience.
However, this is an area that needs improvement for next year to better get the word
out. The Street Faire Committee has plans to increase social media marketing,
utilization of community calendars, and traditional marketing channels for 2019.
Proposed Changes for 2019
The Committee has no proposed changes for 2019. The Committee felt the season hit
a `sweet spot' in regards to band selection, number of attendees, and sales. The DBA
is looking to continue to look for music acts that may trend to a younger audience, while
still having nights for the Street Faire's favorite acts.
The Committee is still evaluating whether to move back the starting times of the bands a
half hour for two reasons; 1) to have the music start closer to the time where the Faire
sees its largest attendance and sales, and 2) allow more time for early act
performances. The early acts were mostly well received and creates a venue for local
artists and groups to showcase their talents.
The Street Faire had a happy hour special in 2018. It didn't generate earlier sales as
anticipated, so the Committee is evaluating tweaks to the happy hour to strike a better
balance between encouraging attendees to enjoy the local restaurants and/or coming to
see the early acts.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The City's portions of the Street Faire operations for 2018 were as follows:
City police services
Parking Shuttle
Street Faire Coordinator
City payment for loss from operations
TOTAL
DISCUSSION:
This memorandum is for discussion purposes.
ATTACHMENTS:
1) 2018 Street Faire Financials
$16,014
$ 2,515
$45,000
$ 0
$63,529
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
