was called Uncle Walt's Service Station. In addition, the family operated a small grocery store
next to the house. This was the closest store to the Frenchtown neighborhood. At a later
unknown date, the service station was moved to the south on County Rd. and the store was
moved to the north on County Rd. Directories indicate that Walter Elliott, besides owning a
service station, also worked as a mining stationary engineer and was a justice of the peace.
The County Assessor card does not indicate a construction date for this house, but does state
that it was "moved in" from elsewhere, which is consistent with the information from the Elliott
family. The County website gives 1900 as the date of construction of the house at 330 County
(and 1960 as the date of construction of 310 County). Boulder County has sometimes been
found to be in error with respect to the construction dates of historic Louisville buildings, so
other evidence is looked to. In this case, there was no evidence found that would indicate that
a house was on the property prior to 1939 when the Elliotts purchased the land, and the
Assessor Card does confirm that the house was moved in. It is possible that the structure was
built in circa 1935-37 in Jefferson County when the Ralston Dam and Reservoir were being built,
but there is an absence of evidence about the original construction date of the house. In the
absence of more specific evidence, the construction date is presumed to be "circa 1900," with
1900 being the date given by the County.
The following photo and ground layout sketch of the house are from the Boulder County
Assessor card that is dated 1948:
3
