Toney and Kitty La Salle's only child, Richard (Dick) La Salle, became a popular band leader and
a composer of TV and movie scores in Hollywood. He was the subject of the lead article of the
Winter 2007 issue of The Louisville Historian, viewable here:
http://www.louisvilleco.gov/home/showdocument?id=1076.
More information on Toney La Salle's expanded furniture store appears below.
Lot 10 (828 Main) — Pellillo House and Pellillo Store
Although the developers of the Marketplace Building added on to the north side and west side
of the Pellillo House, the house is still very much in evidence when the building is viewed from
the northeast. The house's facade is hidden behind the false front of the overall structure.
According to the Boulder County Assessor's website, this property, which had the address of
828 Main Street, is situated on Lot 10, Block 2 in Louisville. The County Assessor's records do
not give a date of construction for either the Pellillo House or the Pellillo Store on the site. The
house (including its old porch) seems to appear in the correct location on all three Sanborn
maps, the earliest one of which is dated 1893, and on the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville
at the Museum. The Pellillo Store building is believed to have been built between 1909 and
1920, based on available information.
Early Owners of Property — 14 Years. Louis Nawatny was the founder of Louisville in 1878 and
the first owner of the lots in original Louisville. However, the chain of ownership could not be
taken back to before 1890, when Peter M. Peltier acquired this lot (and Lot 11) from the
Boulder County Treasurer. Peltier transferred the property to the Pack brothers, Andrew and
Jacob, who transferred it to Joseph Dofler.
Dofler Ownership — 28 years. Joseph Dofler (also Defler, Derfler, and Doeffler), who was of
German heritage, owned the property from 1892 to 1920 and is believed to have lived in the
home with his wife and children. (As it appears that the house was built in 1893 or earlier, it is
not known whether it was Dofler or a previous owner who built the house.)
Sandy Ownership — 1 year. Although Jeremiah B. and Della Sandy owned Lot 10 for only one
year, from 1920 to 1921, their ownership is significant for the fact that they are remembered as
having operated a restaurant in the structure later known as the Pellillo Store that was built on
8
