children were Frank, born 1907; Alice, born 1908; Irene, born 1909; and Avis, born 1910.
Emery Fisher appears to have died between 1910 and 1916.
Records show that McAllister Lumber, which had a deed of trust on the property, may
have ended up as its owner in 1911. This may have been related to the death of the
family breadwinner, Emery Fisher. However, the 1916 Louisville directory shows that
Barbara Fisher was still living at 431 Walnut in 1916. This address of 431 Walnut likely
refers to 841 Garfield under Louisville's old address system that (unlike today) had
numbers going up as one went farther west. (841 Garfield is on the corner of Garfield
and Walnut.)
By 1920, Barbara Fisher and her family had moved elsewhere in Louisville. Barbara
Fisher died in 1956 and her obituary referred to her as having been an "old-timer of
Louisville."
Thomas Family Ownership, 1918
In 1918, Elizabeth Thomas purchased this property from McAllister Lumber. The 1918
Louisville directory shows that that year, John W. and Elizabeth Thomas resided at this
house at 841 Garfield. John W. Thomas was the superintendent of the Sentinel Mine,
according to the directory.
Jordan Family Ownership, 1918-1952
Beginning in 1918 with Joseph Jordan, members of the Jordan family owned this
property until 1952.
Joseph Jordan was born in Germany in 1862 and immigrated as a child. Katherine "Kate"
Jordan was born in Germany in 1869. Her obituary stated that she immigrated at the
age of 14. Prior to coming to Louisville in 1913, they lived in Canfield, near Erie. Their
sons were Harry, born in 1889, and Walter, born in 1900. Both the 1920 and 1930
census records show the family living on Garfield. Joseph worked as a truck driver.
Son Walter Jordan is also strongly associated with this house. He and his wife, Augusta
"Gussie," lived with Walter's parents (Joseph and Kate) at 841 Garfield. Walter worked
as a driver and miner, then became a longtime barber with a barber shop in the area of
where the Louisville City Hall is today.
By the 1940s, with Joseph having passed away in 1940 and Walter and Augusta having
moved to their own home elsewhere in Louisville, Kate Jordan appears to have been
living by herself at 841 Garfield. She died in 1952.
The following images show the photo of the house from the 1948 County Assessor card
and a ground layout sketch of the house at that time, during the ownership by the
