The intriguing earlier history of this house is
intertwined with the histories of other properties that the Italian saloon owner E.J. Di Francia
purchased in the early 1900s. The family story is that he acquired houses to be his daughters'
dowries and for them to live in, and the story is supported by the historical evidence. Boulder County has
sometimes been found to be in error with respect to the date of construction of Louisville
buildings, so other evidence is looked to. The Boulder County Assessor card from 1948 appears
to have been the origin of the "1890" construction date. The card indicates that the source of
the information was the then -owners, George and Hylda Thompson.
In this case, the 1890 date does not appear to be accurate. The plat for the Barclay Place
subdivision was not recorded with Boulder County until 1897 and there is no evidence that any
1
