houses were constructed on a street in Barclay Place so many years before the establishment of
the subdivision. In addition, the owners in 1948 who were said to be the source of the
information were the seventh set of owners of 1034 La Farge and, having been born in 1887
and 1890, would not have had personal knowledge of the construction date. It seems possible
that the information about the construction date had come to them in error.
The house does appear on the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville (as do the similar -looking
houses at 1013, 1021, and 1029 La Farge that had common ownership with this house), so it
was constructed by 1909. It has been found that Barclay Place started to be significantly
developed in around 1905-1908, based on research into the dates of construction for other
houses in Barclay Place. For these reasons, and because records indicate that the first owner
purchased these lots from the developer in 1905, the estimated date of construction is believed
to be "circa 1905."
Heidloff Ownership, 1905
By a deed recorded in 1905, Charles Heidloff purchased these two lots from the Colorado
Mortgage & Investment Co. Boulder County property records indicate that he then sold them
by a deed recorded just a few months later.
Charles Heidloff was born in Ohio in 1871 to German-born parents. He married Martha Fischer
of Louisville's Fischer family in the early 1900s. Martha's father and brothers were carpenters
who constructed houses in Louisville, and Charles Heidloff was also a carpenter. It could not be
determined whether he constructed the house or whether he and his family lived in the house.
Boyd Ownership, 1905-1906
Based on the dates of recording of property documents, F.L. Boyd owned the property from
1905 to 1906.
Rosenbaum Ownership, 1906-1909
Michael L. Rosenbaum owned this property from 1906 to 1909, according to the dates of
recording of Boulder County property documents.
Rosenbaum (1860-1928) was an early resident of the Louisville area. Of German and Irish
heritage, he married Nora Doran of an Irish farming family that lived in Marshall. He was
featured in an 1898 book, "Portrait and Biographical Record of Denver and Vicinity, Colorado:
Containing Portraits and Biographies of Many Well Known Citizens of the Past and Present."
The book described him as being the owner of a large farm and sawmill near Louisville and as
the owner of "valuable city property in Boulder and Louisville."
2
