would suggest that the 1948 date is not correct. Also, the fact that the property was assessed
so shortly after construction would suggest that the date is accurate.
The first owner of the house is believed to have been Stephen Evanich. His name is listed as the
owner on the Assessor card that appears to be dated 1950. Also, the 1949 and 1951 directories
for Louisville show that he and his wife, Wilma, were living at 1309 Grant in those years.
However, the warranty deed by which Alvin Fischer sold the property to Evanich was not
recorded until 1952, just days before Evanich resold it. It appears that Evanich had owned it
much longer, perhaps since 1948, and that there was a delay in having the deed recorded.
Stephen Evanich (1926-1986) was born in New Mexico and moved to Boulder County with his
family in 1936. He served in the Navy in World War II. He married Wilma Wisek (born 1928) in
1947. She was born in the Louisville area to parents from longtime Louisville families. According
to his obituary, Steve Evanich worked as a self-employed cement contractor for Evanich
Concrete until 1980, at which time he went to work for the Boulder Valley School District, then
Hines Lumber Co. in Lafayette.
The following photo of the house and a ground layout sketch are from the Boulder County
Assessor card that is believed to date from about 1950, not long after the house was built. The
original size of the home was 480 square feet. An addition of 300 feet was added in 1953 by
John and Nellie Stoker. The blue pencil on the ground layout sketch indicates the original house,
with the red pencil indicating the addition.
2
