Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
April 2012
mix
Cityoj
Louisville
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
1201 La Farge Ave History
Legal Description: LOTS 25-26 & S 12 FT LOT 27 BLK 2, Nicola DiGiacomo Addition
Year of Construction: Circa 1900-09 (see discussion below)
Summary: After being sold by the DiGiacomo family that developed it, this property
was associated with the Sabatini, Goldstein, Negri, and Beranek families of Louisville.
The Negri family made some changes to the house in the period of about 1928-1930.
This used to be the only house on a larger parcel that now consists of 1201 La Farge,
1209 La Farge, and 1221 La Farge.
DiGiacomo Ownership & Date of Construction
This area of Louisville is called the Nicola DiGiacomo Addition, having been platted by
Nicola DiGiacomo in 1907. Nicola DiGiacomo owned and farmed this area before filing
the plat for a subdivision. This addition consists of 4 % blocks that stretch across the
north end of Old Town Louisville. On the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville, Nicola
DiGiacomo is also shown as the owner of the additional property where Louisville
Middle School is now located, and the residential area that now extends behind the
school and north of it up to South Boulder Road.
DiGiacomo was born in Italy in about 1852 and immigrated to the US in about 1882. In
the 1910 census, Nicola DiGiacomo was listed as a 57-year-old farmer. Nicola
DiGiacomo's wife, Lucia, was also born in Italy in about 1852 and she immigrated in
about 1888.
Nicola DiGiacomo passed away in 1915. James DiGiacomo and Lucia DiGiacomo, the
sellers of the property in question to Joe Sabatini, were the son and wife of Nicola
DiGiacomo.
The Boulder County Assessor card for this property gives 1900 as the year of
construction. However, the County records have sometimes been found to be in error
1
