Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
May 2011
LCityoj
Om Louisville
COLORADO 'SINCE 1.878
1021 Jefferson Ave. History
Legal description: Lots 5 & 6, Block 2, Capitol Hill Addition
Year of Construction: circa 1906
Architect/Builder: Unknown
Previous addresses used to refer to this property: 526 Jefferson (in Louisville directories from the
1920s) and 528 Jefferson (in the 1936 Louisville directory). These addresses were used during Louisville's
old numbering system, which changed in the late 1930s.
Summary: This house was owned for the longest period of time by the Sottley family, for 45 years. This
house is unusual in Louisville for the number of times that it appears in unrelated historic photographs
in the collection of the Louisville Historical Museum.
History of Capital Hill Addition
J.C. Williams, who was a mine superintendent with the Rocky Mountain Fuel Company, and Irving
Elberson, who was a banker, were the developers of the Capitol Hill Addition. The plat for this addition
was filed with the County in 1904.
In 1905, J.C. Williams sold this property to Anton Nordin. The County's estimate that the house was
constructed in 1906 is probably correct, given that the first purchaser acquired it in 1905. Upon Nordin's
death, it was sold by his heirs, John Nordin, Kristina Helena Nordin, and Maria Nordin in 1909 to Andy
Teague, although the contract for Teague to purchase the house was filed with the County three years
earlier, in 1906.
