Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
June 2013
IECity of
Louisville
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
1000 Griffith Street History
Legal Description: Lot 7 & Lot 8 less east 65 feet, Block 11, Caledonia Place; also known as Part
of Lots 7 & 8, Block 11, Caledonia Place.
Year of Construction: circa 1920
The history of 1000 Griffith is intertwined with that of 1004 Griffith. Research of the County's
online property records indicates that the two properties had common ownership until 1972.
They also used to have the same general legal descriptions, both being Part of Lots 7 and 8,
Block 11, Caledonia Place.
The history of 1000 Griffith is also intertwined with that of 1341 Cannon. Records indicate that
members of the Irwin Family, and their representatives, owned both properties.
According to the Boulder County Assessor, this house at 1000 Griffith was constructed in 1920.
However, as the County is sometimes in error with respect to the dates of construction of
Louisville buildings, an attempt was made to verify the construction date. No other relevant
information as to the date of construction could be found, however, except that the 1909
Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville shows the presence of a building in the approximate location of
the current house, which suggests that the original house could have been constructed before
1920. Unfortunately, no County Assessor card, from 1948 or any other year, could be located
for this property.
Information about the ownership of the properties at 1000 Griffith and 1004 Griffith before
1940 could not be located through the County's online records, as the parcel appears to have
been acquired by the Boulder County Treasurer in a bankruptcy proceeding, making it difficult
to trace the chain of ownership in the online records. In 1940, Dora Golden of Louisville
purchased them as one parcel, it is believed, from the Boulder County Treasurer. In 1940 when
she acquired the parcel, the house at 1000 Griffith would have been present, but the house at
1004 Griffith had not yet been relocated to that location.
