In 1949, Dora Golden sold the parcel to John and Cecelia Sarson. The Sarson family owned this
parcel, including the house at 1000 Griffith, for fifteen years, from 1949 to 1964. The Louisville
directories for 1951 and 1955 show that John and Cecelia Sarson lived at 1000 Griffith and state
that John Sarson worked as a miner. They were members of Louisville's Slovenian community.
John Sarson was born in Slovenia in 1891 and died in 1960. Cecelia Sarson was born in Slovenia
in 1884 and died in 1972.
In 1964, Cecelia Sarson sold the parcel that included what are now both 1000 Griffth and 1004
Griffith to Marvel and Kathleen Larson. The 1966 directory shows Marvel Larson as being a
resident of 1000 Griffith.
In 1973, Marvel Larson is believed to have sold the part of the parcel that is now 1000 Griffith
to Otis and Zelia Willoughby and Gary and Carol Olson. (Larson had sold the part of the parcel
that is now 1004 Griffith to Robert and Patricia Myers the previous year, in 1972.)
In 1980, owners Otis and Zelia Willoughby and Gary and Carol Olson sold 1000 Griffith to
Charles and Elsie Irwin. 1000 Griffith was later transferred to PDI Trust, which is the current
legal owner of record, according to online County records.
Sources
The preceding research is based on a review of relevant and available online County property records, census
records, oral history interviews, and related resources, and Louisville directories, newspaper articles, maps, files,
obituary records, survey records, and historical photographs from the collection of the Louisville Historical
Museum.
