Slovenian community. John Sarson was born in Slovenia in 1891 and died in 1960. Cecelia
Sarson was born in Slovenia in 1884 and died in 1972.
In 1964, Cecelia Sarson sold the parcel that included what are now 1000 Griffth and 1004
Griffith to Marvel and Kathleen Larson. The 1966 directory shows Marvel Larson as being a
resident of 1000 Griffith.
In 1972, Larson sold the part of the parcel that is now 1004 Griffith to Robert and Patricia
Myers. (It is believed that he sold the part of the parcel that is now 1000 Griffith to a different
party in 1973.)
In the files of the Louisville Historical Museum is a copy of a handwritten request to the
Louisville Board of Appeals requesting a variance with respect to 1004 Griffith. The document,
dated May 2, 1972, was written by the owner of 1004 Griffith, Robert Myers. Nothing more is
known about the decision of the Board of Appeals with respect to the variance request, but the
document contains information about the history of the house. Myers wrote:
Gentlemen: The house that I have moved onto the lot at 1004 Griffith St. is too
long to maintain both a satisfactory front clearance (set back) and a rear
clearance to the property line. When the original building permit was issued, a
21 %2 foot rear yard was approved. The front porch overhang is what changed the
calculations in that it cannot protrude into the 25' front set back. This reduces
our rear yard to approximately 12' ....
Robert Myers went on in the document to request a variance for the rear yard clearance. He
also indicated a desire to maintain a large yard on the west side of the house.
Robert and Patricia Myers conveyed 1004 Griffith in 1976 to Wesley and Rebecca Baker.
Louisville directories show that Wesley and Rebecca Baker were residents of 1004 Griffith in the
late 1970s and early 1980s. Later in the 1980s, other people are listed as residents who may
have been lessees.
By a warranty deed recorded in 2012, the Bakers sold 1004 Griffith to RMCS LCC, which is the
current legal owner of record, according to Boulder County online records.
Sources
The preceding research is based on a review of relevant and available online County property records, census
records, oral history interviews, and related resources, and Louisville directories, newspaper articles, maps, files,
obituary records, survey records, and historical photographs from the collection of the Louisville Historical
Museum.
