Steinbaugh Ownership, 1909-1921; Discussion of Date of Construction By a deed recorded in 1909, Antonio Onorato sold Lots 6 & 7 to Elizabeth Steinbaugh. She and her husband, Louisville businessman J.J. Steinbaugh, lived elsewhere with their family, so this may have been rental property for her. It appears to have been during her ownership that the house was constructed. The following excerpt from the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville shows the East Louisville subdivision and the area of Lots 6 & 7 of Block 3, which is the current location of 1109 Spruce. This map shows a house straddling Lots 5 & 6. The reason for this is not known, and it could have been an error. The County property records do not indicate that there was common ownership between Lots 5 & 6. The County gives 1915 as the date of construction of 1109 Spruce. Boulder County has sometimes been found to be in error with respect to construction dates of Louisville buildings, so other evidence is looked to. If the map shows an error and the building should have appeared on Lots 6 and 7 on the 1909 map, then that would suggest an earlier construction date than 1915. However, in the absence of strong evidence to the contrary, the plausible date of "circa 1915" is the estimated date. 2
