Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
December 15, 2008
Discussion/Direction -Programming for Preservation Incentive Moneys from the
Passage of 2A
Koertje presented materials highlighting issues and questions about how to proceed with
the new preservation funding. Specific questions that will need to be addressed include:
• The role of the HPC
• Priorities for funding
• How to divide the funding
• Contingency funding
• Donations
Muth asked if the members would like to flesh out more details of the program before
she continues work on a survey budget and grant programs.
Koertje stated he thought work on both should continue concurrently
Muckle stated her desire that the HPC get one tangible program up and running soon to
show that the money is being well spent. She added her hope that the money be divided
evenly between three areas (preservation, maintaining character, and new construction).
John Leary asked that the HPC be sure that if the historic surveys are to be used for
basis of decisions, then the surveys need to collect the correct information. He added
that the program should be used to complement existing programs.
Koertje will continue to work on the recommendations and bring additional materials for
discussion to the January meeting.
Items from Staff
Muth noted that the City Council had reappointed Koertje and Tofte to the commission
for three-year terms. She added that Todd Menza had recently submitted his letter of
resignation from the Commission. At this time there are two vacant positions on the
Commission. She encouraged members to recruit candidates noting that the City
Council often makes board appointments to fill vacancies outside of the normal end-of-
year schedule.
Muth reminded members that the next HPC meeting will be on January 26 due to the
Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
Muth also reminded members of the County Preservation Forum on February 7, 9 AM -
Noon.
Items from Commission Members
Koertje reminded members of the meeting with Historic Boulder, January 10 at 11:00 AM
Whiteman asked if the February meeting could be rescheduled to February 9. Members
agreed to do so.
Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 10:05 PM.
