Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
December 15, 2008
budget, the sign at South Boulder Road and McCaslin Boulevard would be the first to be
installed.
Muth added that the designs include design elements from Louisville's history; however
it should be emphasized that they are not meant to be historic signs, but rather were
specifically designed to be contemporary 2008 signs.
Muth noted that she could take comments if the HPC had them, but the City Council and
staff have already reviewed the signs and there are no plans to alter or redesign the
signs at this time.
Jean Morgan stated that she only wants sings identifying the town, and does not want
anything as extravagant as the proposed signs. She added that the designs don't say
"Louisville" to her.
John Leary added that if the HPC feels the signs need to be more historic in character,
they should say so to the City.
Lewis asked for Commission comments.
Koertje noted that the signs appear to be outside the jurisdiction of the HPC
Whiteman agreed stating that if the City Council wants the input of the HPC he will give
it, but unless the City specifically want the HPC involved, then no comments are needed.
Morgan asked that when or if the City does gateway signs to the downtown can the HPC
please be involved.
Lewis noted that given the later hour the remaining agenda should be prioritized.
Members agreed to address the Landmark Plaques and the Preservation Program
before the end of the meeting.
Landmark Plaque Design
Muth noted that the original and a new version were included in the meeting packet for
review.
Whiteman stated that he liked the new version better but thought I may be more
expensive.
John Leary stated he liked the design and added he would be willing to help pay for the
plaque for his house. His main concern was that the content and information on the
plaques be correct and that he have a chance to review and give input regarding the
plaque for his home.
Members had some suggestions on fonts and language. Muth will bring new ones for
review in January.
