• Walnut Open Space: City Council gave direction to zone this property as Open Space.
Council supported the "Open Space- Other" classification which allows for the most flexibility
in management practices.
Please note, beyond this current phase of Open Space zoning, there likely are future phases
that would occur following a more extensive inventory of public owned lands.
Next Steps:
Park & Recreation Department staff will work together and with other Departments to
develop specific recommendations for Open Space zoning boundaries, to survey the
properties, and to ensure that Open Space zoning does not conflict with potential future City
development. Open Space zoning boundaries that impact park land (such as Elephant Park)
as well as an evaluation of park options (playgrounds, sports fields, dog parks, etc.) on the
southern portion of the Olson property will be discussed with PPLAB. All City Council
approved properties, in the current zoning phase (identified above), will be reviewed with
OSAB for approval and/or recommendations. This review is tentatively scheduled for the
first quarter of 2019.
Attached:
1. October 16, 2018 City Council Communication
2.
