307 Eisenhower Dr., east view — Current Photo
ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY:
The house at 307 Eisenhower Drive was constructed from 1922-1925 by the Hocheder
family. The house has a stone fagade making it unique among homes in the Louisville
area. This vernacular bungalow is a single story with a low-pitched front -gable roof. It
has wide, unenclosed eave overhang, and originally had a prominent full -width front
porch (later enclosed) covered by the main roof, all of which are common features for
bungalow -form homes. Early pictures show exposed rafter tails, however those have
been enclosed. The decorative triangular knee braces under the gables on the facade
and rear elevation appear to be original, while the decorative woodwork and shingles on
the front elevation were added post-1965. Excluding the area that was formerly the front
porch, the window and door placement appears to have remained the same over time.
The residence has a rectangular plan and retains its original footprint. The home shows
a high degree of architectural integrity.
The following primary changes to the property occurred over time:
• Front porch enclosed;
• Rafter tails enclosed;
• Roof replaced;
• Decorative woodwork added to the front gable;
• Detached garage added.
