buildings in Louisville. For this reason, and especially because of the discrepancy in the dates
given by the County itself, it is important to look at all of the evidence.
In this case, the house does appear on the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville. In addition, as
noted, the 1910 federal census shows August Warembourg to be living with his family in this
location, and he was the owner of the property at the time. For these reasons, the 1909 date
put forth by Boulder County is assumed to be the correct date of construction. It is possible that
there was a remodel or expansion in the other year given (1920).
Rodriguez Family Ownership, 1920-1923
Mary Rodriguez purchased this property in 1920 and sold it in 1923. She was born in Mexico in
the 1880s or 1890s (sources differ) and was married to Frank Rodriguez. The 1920 federal
census shows them to be living on Rex Street, in the correct vicinity for the location to have
been 1028 Rex St. Frank's occupation was listed as being section hand for the railroad.
Caranci/Romano Family Ownership, 1923-2018
In 1923, Marino "Mike" Caranci (1894-1981) and Mary Romano Caranci (1898-1973) purchased
the property at 1028 Rex. Mike Caranci had been born in Italy and he immigrated in 1913. He
and his parents and other members of his family first came to Marshall, Colorado. His brother,
Carlo Caranci, also ended up living in Louisville.
In 1916, Mike Caranci married Mary Romano. Mary Romano is believed to have been born in
Louisville, and she grew up very near to 1028 Rex. Her family home was close by at 301 East St.,
just across the railroad tracks, and that is where members of her family lived until 1987. Her
brother, Carmen Romano, also resided near both 1028 Rex and 301 East, at 225 County Rd.
In 1923, Mike and Mary Caranci moved into the house at 1028 Rex with their children Ida
(1918-1999), Florence (1919-2006), and Lucille (born 1922). They then had Lawrence (1924-
2011), Mildred (1927-2016), and Eugene (1929-2018). Mike worked as a coal miner, retiring in
1956.
The following photo and ground layout image are from the 1948 County Assessor card:
2
