Cityr Louisville PARKS, RECREATION & OPEN SPACE Memorandum To: Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board From: Allan Gill, PLA, Park's Project Manager Date: October 3, 2019 Re: Playground Replacements Project, Elephant and Keith Helart Parks — Open House Review Information and Summary: The playgrounds at Elephant Park and Keith Helart Parks are older and replacement parts for the play equipment are no long available. Both playgrounds have access issues and do not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The goal of the playground replacements project is to replace the old and out dated playgrounds with new playgrounds that are inviting, fun, meets or exceeds ADA requirements and creates a positive first impression of Louisville's parks system. City Council approved the playground replacements project contract for elephant Park and Keith Helart Park at their July 9 meeting. The contract has been awarded to the design -build team of HPM Inc. as the contractor and The Architerra Group as the landscape architect. An open house for each park was scheduled on Saturday September 28 for neighbors and City residents. The conceptual drawings in your packet were presented at the open houses to gather ideas and generate discussion about the future parks and what they might look like. On Monday September 30 staff is planning to meet with the design -build team to review the information collected at the open houses and bring that information to the board for further discussion. Funding: The City's bi-annual budget currently includes funding of $280,000 in both 2019 and 2020. The budget includes design, construction and all other aspects of the project.
