Lake to Waneka Lake. <br />• The City should encourage the economic health of existing shopping centers by <br />leveraging public investment to stimulate private redevelopment. <br />• Development adjacent to SH42 between Paschal Drive and Hecla Drive will maintain <br />a semi -rural character, highlighting viewsheds and demonstrating ample setbacks, <br />landscaping, pedestrian connectivity, etc. appropriate for a gateway into City. <br />Opportunity Area #1 2008 Comp Plan Update: <br />Over the course of the last three years land use entitlements have been established for this <br />Planning Area consistent with the 2005 Plan. Therefore the degree of review of this <br />Opportunity Area will be limited. Among those issues that staff would recommend for <br />discussion would be: <br />Regional Trail Connectivity <br />• Policy formation focus on the completion of a regional trail system in Opportunity <br />Area #1. The establishment of east/west connectivity across BNSF right-of-way as <br />well as Highway 42 right of way. <br />Community Character <br />• Policy formation to address the identification of community gateway with appropriate <br />signage/ entry features. <br />2 <br />
