In response to residents voicing concern about a group of coyotes that are sick with <br />mange in the area of Walnut Park, Rangers and staff have been working closely with <br />Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to monitor the animals and assess their health. <br />This effort has resulted in a wealth of photographs from two motion -activated <br />cameras and helpful information about how coyotes use Open Space corridors to <br />move through Louisville and conduct their daily activities. CPW district wildlife <br />managers will perform on -site visits this week to determine next management steps <br />for the coyotes. Staff are coordinating with the Police Department to ensure public <br />safety during these visits. <br />Education/Volunteer: <br />Past volunteer events: <br />A. Tuesday, September 15th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Pulling for Louisville, Hecla <br />Lake Russian Olives. Hecla Lake Open Space (meet at eastern entrance off <br />Lakespur Court). Sign up from Fans of Louisville Open Space and Parks <br />Facebook page or by calling 303-335-4742. Ages 14 and up. <br />2. Upcoming events: <br />A. Professional, amateur, and beginner naturalists will convene on Saturday, <br />October 10th from 9:00-10:30 AM at Davidson Mesa for an iNaturalist rally. <br />The event will be a mini-"bioblitz" where participants identify plants and <br />wildlife using the iNaturalist app and share their knowledge with each other. <br />B. Painting enthusiasts will gather at Davidson Mesa on Wednesday, October 21 <br />from 5:00-7:00 PM for our debut informal "plein air" painting event. <br />C. Volunteers will conduct a poop clean-up event at the Davidson Mesa Dog <br />Off -Leash area on Saturday, November 7 from 9:00-10:00 AM. <br />D. Open Space staff will give a live, online presentation "How to Make Your Yard <br />More Wildlife Friendly" on a Tuesday, November 10 at 6:00 PM. <br />
