any examples of historic use of metal roofs in the City for this type of structure and
during the historic period of significance related to the preservation work on the house.
This roof is also on the most visible roof portion of the historic house. While there are
regional examples of historic standing seam metal roofs, staff believes these likely would
be unpainted metal. The black painted standing seam metal currently in place is not
consistent with the typical historic use of this material and substantially alters the
appearance of the material. Staff finds this portion of proposal does not meet the City's
criteria for alteration certificates and recommends denial.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of Resolution No. 26, Series 2020, recommending approval of the
alteration certificate for 816 Lincoln Avenue that includes the revised roof pitch on the garage
and the use of metal roof on the new addition, with the condition that the applicant remove the
standing seam metal from the porch roof and comply with the 2019 Alteration Certificate as
originally specified with asphalt shingles.
ATTACHMENTS:
1.
