welcoming environment. Staff member Owen presented. Board member Seyle offered to help.
IX. Ongoing Business
A. Superior Board of Trustees update (N. Shah). Following the election the Board is reviewing how the
Board will interact with city boards and will update once the plans are finalized. The town of Superior has
opened new pickle ball courts. Director Nemechek noted that the city has purchased hold lockers for the
Superior location and is preparing to install them as the project develops.
One possibility for board representation would be to have a member of the Superior community who is not
a Board member to represent Superior on the library Board. Board President Gurganus noted that The
Foundation is still looking for new members, and would love to have representation from Superior.
B. Library Foundation liaison report (R. Gurganus). The Foundation has been discussing whether and how
to increase funding for the Library in recognition of the economic impact of COVID. The utility bill
campaign is going to be continued for 2020 and will be paired with a direct mail campaign to former
donors. The Foundation will be participating in Colorado Gives Day this year.
The Foundation has purchased a new 3D printer to replace the aging printer in the MakerSpace. The
Foundation is looking for more members and will be voting on officers at the next meeting.
C. Trustee Handbook Update (E. Owen). The handbook has been updated to fix broken links and to
clarify some acronyms. The new version was moved to be approved by Board member Lechner and
seconded by Board member Schuman. The version was approved by vote.
D. Library Staff Support. Given the current situation with COVID and the changing plans, the Board
wanted to discuss what could be done to support Library staff morale and general wellbeing. This issue
was tabled until the new year, when patterns and issues might be clearer.
X. Directors Report
Library services update: In compliance with public health guidance the Library has gone back to no in -person
browsing, with limited computer use by appointment. They are currently averaging 300-600 holds per day,
and about 30 interactions per hour between curbside and walk-in pickup. The Library currently expects to
operate as an essential business even under the most strict restrictions, and if those are put into place all
in -building interactions with patrons would be closed but holds and curbside pickup would continue. The
Library is working with local schools to promote students' access to library cards through direct outreach and
mailing cards to students who apply. Youtube views are around 4,200 views and Facebook interactions have
increased by 10%. Virtual event attendance is increasing for adults, to the point where it is exceeding
previous attendance. For children virtual event attendance is lower than in -person. In December the Library
will hold a winter reading program "for kids of all ages" using some of the prizes from the summer reading
program.
Board member Seyle asked about the ten item limit for holds. Director Nemechek explained that this is in
response to capacity limitations under the current library staff. Staff member Owen flagged that the "we
browse for you" service can in some circumstances allow for more than ten items, but the best solution is to
ensure that each member of a family has their own library card.
Library staff member Owen presented the new Library style guide, which provides design guidance and
